Human fragments

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Lydia Cecilia’s series Human fragments explores the process to create the individual identity.  To her, this creation process is closely linked to the collage creative process.

Collage is an endless source of images created through fragments, which naturally achieve a self identity. In the same way, each individual person adopt a series of social labels. But in this process, a self identity emerges with deeper significance.

The uniqueness of this identity cannot be assimilated by the social structure which regulate us. However, our society tries to classify what is unique, and by doing so, this beautiful creature splits in simple pieces in order to be inserted in their elementary classification. In this process, a fundamental holistic thought is forgotten, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’.
